Gro – Foam sub-irrigation plant sleeves are a great, inexpensive form of sub-irrigation. Easy to use, with great results! Periods between watering can be extended up to 3 or 4 weeks under certain conditions, such as light. heat, and the overall size of the decorative container.
How it works:
Just remove your plant from its grow pot, drop it into the Gro-Foam, add some soil if necessary, and place it in the decorative container. If the decorative container is not waterproof, a drip tray will be necessary. The plant is then watered, with some water collecting at the base of the decorative container. Generally at least up to 2 inches of water can remain at the base. The plant can then be watered again when this water has been used up.
Over time, the plant roots will grow through the foam, in search of water. Air caught in the foam will keep the plant healthy and allow it to thrive. Once the roots have grown through the foam, it is preferable to always have at least a little amount of water remaining at the bottom of the decorative container.
